Execution Report: Alvin Crane

Continued from Page 1

A jury convicted Crane of capital murder in November 1987 and sentenced him to death. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the conviction and sentence in January 1990. All of his subsequent appeals in state and federal court were denied.

In his appeals, Crane contended that he was mentally impaired from a 1981 motorcycle accident. He also claimed that he was insane at the time of the shooting.

"I just want to say I'm sorry to the family," Crane said in his last statement. "I know I caused you a lot of pain and suffering and I hope that you will find some peace and comfort in this. " Crane also expressed love to his family. He was pronounced dead at 6:23 p.m.
