Heiselbetz had no previous prison record, but numerous witnesses, including his wife, testified that he had been violently angry and physically abusive towards them and his two children.
A jury convicted Heiselbez in November 1991 of the capital offense of murdering of two people in the same event. The jury sentenced him to death. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the conviction and sentence in June 1995. All of his subsequent appeals in state and federal court were denied.
In his last statement, Heiselbetz said only, "Love ya'll, see you on the other side." The lethal injection was then started. He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m.
Heiselbetz was the 200th prisoner executed in Texas since capital punishment resumed in 1982.
