Execution Report: Billy Crutsinger

Continued from Page 1

A jury found Crutsinger guilty of capital murder in September 2003 and sentenced him to death. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed his conviction and sentence in May 2006. All of his subsequent appeals in state and federal court were denied.

Three of Crutsinger's friends attended his execution. No one attended on the behalf of his victims.

"There is a lot of this I don't understand," Crutsinger said in his last statement, "but the system is not completely right. It's not completely wrong, but it is something that has to be done until something better comes along. But, I am at peace with that and I am OK and I can live with that." Crutsinger spoke for nearly four minutes. He thanked his friends for coming and expressed his belief in Jesus. The lethal injection was then started. "I feel it ... in my left arm," he said next. "It is kind of burning." He then lost consciousness. He was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.
